A Robust Detail for Part E of the Building Regulations has been the status of RD following a minimum of 30 ‘field tests’ where the recorded mean performance was 5 dB better than the sound insulation requirements as described in Approved Document E for new build separating floors.

The use of robust details provides an alternative to pre-completion testing (PCT) for demonstrating compliance with the performance standards of Part E1 (Protection against sound from other parts of the building and adjoining buildings) for new build dwellings. This eliminates the risk of remedial action after PCT which could lead to site delays and costs.

Robust detail is particularly suitable for separating floors in new build houses and blocks of apartments.
