Litecast Thermal XT

The Litecast Thermal XT flooring system comprises of expanded polystyrene panels, Litecast pre-stressed concrete floor beams and a structural screed.

The XT flooring system can achieve U values of 0.10 W/m²K.(absolute optimum U-value).

It offers fast installation using standard components.

Litecast Floor Beams

The Litecast 150mm and 225mm deep pre-stressed floor beams are designed in accordance with BS 8110-1: 1997 and weigh 24kg/m and 67kg/m respectively

Structural Floor Screed

The floor beams and EPS panels are finished with 50mm thick structural concrete screed finish which is reinforced with either polypropylene fibres or an A98 Mesh.

EPS Infill Panels

The Expanded Polystyrene panels are solid moulded from lightweight closed cell expanded polystyrene. The panel is manufactured to a density of 17 kg/m³.

The profile has been designed to suit existing pre-stressed beam profiles.

EPS infil panels are used in place of standard building blocks between the Litecast Floor Beams. The insulation value of the EPS is significantly better than even the most efficient lightweight thermal block so no further insulation is required in the floor structure whilst providing thermal mass.

The closed cell lightweight EPS panels are very easy to handle and their design facilitates a very rapid installation. The shape of the panels has been carefully developed to minimize cold bridging at the floor beams giving an insulation thickness of 218mm, 243mm or 333mm.

Where necessary the panels can be easily cut with a fine toothed saw to accommodate the most awkward lengths, spans, widths and services. Off cuts can be reused so waste is minimized . Each block measures 1200 mm long and covers more than five times the area of a standard building block. The EPS panels weigh approximately 2.00 kg each and arrive on site in packs of twelve shrink wrapped in polythene which can be moved comfortably by one person.

The Litecast Thermal XT flooring system comprises of Tdeck polystyrene panels, Litecast floor beams ,(Polystyrene sheets and push-fix dowels and pins may be required), standard concrete and aerated concrete perimeter blocks and a structural concrete screed to the certificate holder’s specifications.

The advanced design of the system provides a greater level of home comfort and ensures reduced heating costs. Litecast Thermal Flooring XT has been tested in accordance with NHBC criteria, achieving third party accreditation by BRE and certification under BBA certificate

Litecast Thermal XT flooring system provides excellent insulation properties with ‘U’ values of 0.10 W/m²K being achievable, dependant on floor area and the exposed perimeter of the dwelling, (P/A).

Because the design of the EPS infill panels minimizes cold bridging at the floor beam the theoretical design performance is delivered in practice. The very low you values obtained with this system will assist in meeting the more stringent thermal requirements of the proposed new Building Regulations. Unlike some other insulation materials the thermal performance of EPS does not degrade over its lifetime.

Environmental Integrity

Expanded polystyrene is non-irritant, non-toxic, and resistant to attack from bacteria, rodents and fungus.

The high level of insulation provided by the EPS insulation panels makes a positive contribution to the reduction in CO2 emissions to the atmosphere by reducing the amount of fossil fuel required to heat the dwelling.

The energy used in the production of the EPS (embodied energy) is saved many times over throughout the life of the building in which it is installed. Initial recovery is thought to be within the first occupancy of the building, 15 years.

Litecast Thermal U Values

When using Litecast Thermal Flooring is necessary to calculate the perimeter over area ratio (P/A) of the floor. From the table below you can then read down the corresponding column to find the appropriate system.

Cost Savings

With the Litecast Thermal XT flooring system the need for sheet insulation, chipboard or additional screed finishes is eliminated, therefore and no ‘second fix’ costs are incurred.

Overall construction heights may also be reduced. Installation of the system is fast and uncomplicated without the need for skilled tradesmen and provides peace of mind.

Underfloor Heating

Litecast Thermal Flooring XT can accommodate underfloor heating which can be run from conventional ≤40°C boiler or renewable heat pump creating a thermal store for winter warmth or summer cooling.

Floor Beam Layout Design

A full design service is available from Litecast Homefloors, who will provide easy to understand layout drawings showing the most economic layout for the individual dwelling.

Membranes

Membranes to exclude the passage of radon, methane or air tightness can be accommodated. Installing a membrane over the beams and panels in accordance with the manufacturers guidelines prior to the structural floor screed will provide continuous air/vapour barrier.

Handling and storage

The EPS panels are delivered to site suitably wrapped in polythene. The packs should be stored under cover, protected from direct sunlight, out of contact with ground moisture and raised above ground level. Avoid contact with solvents and organic material such as coal tar pitch or creosote.
